Clinical Study on Aged Patients


Abstract
Considering 2,948 cases aged 60 and over among total cases of 54, 917 which has been cared as in patient at St. Mary¢¥s Hospital of Catholic Medical Center during the period of January 1970 through December, 1975 (6 years), following. data have been obtained.
1. The average admission rate is 5.4%.
2. Sex ratio shows 52.8% in male and 47.2% in female, with predominant in male. 3. In age distribution, the sixth decade is, the most common as 75.5%, the seve¡þnth decade 21.7%, the eighth decade 2.8%.
4. Diseases in gastrointestinal system are the most common as 30.95 1 of cases and the cardiovascular system, .13.1% and the neurologic system, 11:0%.
5. Malignant- disease are found in stomach (38.3%), liver 14.5%), and lung (12.0%). Male is involved twice as much as female.
6. In disturbance of gastrointestinal -system, cholelithiasis (24.8%), peptic -ulcer (13.,7%), cholecystitis and liver cirrhosis (13.2%) are frequently observed.
7 In the disturbances of cardiovascular system, venous thrombosis & phlebitis (31.4%), congestive heart failure (18.3%), and hypertension. (18.2%) are common findings.
8. In the disease of neurologic system, CVA ¢¥(47.2%), head injury (29.4%), and aneurysm (10.0%) are common findings.
9. In the disturbances of respiratory system, pulmonary tuberculosis (25.0%), acute bronchitis and pneumonia (21.0%), and bronchial asthma .(17%) are common findings.
10. Diseases in skeletomuscular disorders, bone fracture (60%), arthritis (13.0%) frequently observed.
11. Renal diseases, BPH (36.4%) nephritis (32.1%) and renal failure (18.7%)
are frequently observed.
12. Intoxication in relatively common in old aged patient as 0.5%.
13. In the surgical operation (568cases), gastrointestinal surgery (24.3%), pancreatic
biliary surgery (15.7%), and lens -extraction are common findings.
